Abstract
PURPOSE: To produce a polyethylene having good moldability and high rigidity, by polymerizing ethylene in the presence of a catalyst containing a solid component obtained from a specified titanium compound and an organic component, and an organometallic compound.
CONSTITUTION: An OR group-containing solid product is prepared by reacting (A) a halogen-containing tetravalent titanium compound with (B) an organomagnesium component soluble in an inert hydrocarbon (at least one of the reactants has OR groups, wherein R is a C3WC20 sec. or tert. hydrocarbon group). Then, this product is heat-decomposed to form an OR group-free solid component. Then, the polyethylene of the purpose is prepared by polymerizing ethylene or ethylene and other olefins under one-stage or multistage polymerization conditions by using a combination of the OR group-free solid component and an organometallic compound such as trialkylaluminum, as a catalyst.
