Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a high-performance grease thickener having excellent dispersion stability, by a method wherein an N-aliph. hydrocarbon-substd. ureidomelamine is reacted with a diisocyanate in a base oil.
CONSTITUTION: A sym-triazine-polyurea compd. of formula I (wherein R1, R2 are 14W22C aliph. hydrocarbon group; R3 is hydrocarbon residue of formula II or III) is incorporated into a base oil by reacting an N-aliph. hyrocarbon-substd. ureidomelamine with a diisocyanate in the base oil. Usually, the compsn. is added to a base oil to form a grease. But, all of the base oil may be added as the reaction solvent from the beginning of the reaction and the resulting compsn. may be used as the grease without any appreciable after-treatment. The N-aliph. hydrocarbon- substd. ureidomelamine can be obtd., e.g., by reacting melamine with an alkyl isocyanate.
