Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a filter which is high in mechanical strength and thermal shock resistance, permits easy holding in an exhaust system and allows combustion and removal of fine particles only with the heat energy of exhaust gas by forming the filter of a foamlike metallic body of prescribed porosities and number of cells. CONSTITUTION:A foamlike metallic bod which consists of single metal of Ni, Cr, etc. or their alloy and has >=90% porosities and 2-15 pieces/cm number of cells is formed into an exhaust manihold shape or cylindrical shape in accordance with the places of installation, whereby the filter element is formed. This is inserted into a manihold vessel or heat resistance cylindrical member and is secured thereto. The exhaust manihold or filter constituted in this way is mounted to the exhaust pipe system of an engine.
