Abstract
PURPOSE: To enhance the wear resistance of common spheroidal graphite cast iron without deteriorating the toughness by increasing the P content of the cast iron and adding Cu or Ni to precipitate steadite and spheroidal graphite in the fine 2-phase mixed matrix structure.
CONSTITUTION: This spheroidal graphite cast iron contains 3.1W4.1% C, 2.1W 3.5% Si, ≤1.0% Mn, 0.1W0.35% P, ≤0.03% S, ≤0.1% graphite spheroidizing element and 0.5W1.5% Cu and/or 0.5W3.0% Ni. This cast iron is provided with improved wear resistance by uniformly dispersing and precipitating ternary eutectic steadite of Fe-Fe3C-Fe3P3 and spheroidal graphite in the tough fine 2-phase mixed matrix structure contg. ferrite and pearlite, sorbite or martensite and having ≤15μm average grain size.
