Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide a low-toxic antiviral agent having antiviral activity and containing N-alkylamidinohydrazone of alkoxyacetophenone or alkoxybenzalacetone.
CONSTITUTION: The agent contains N-alkylamidinohydrazone of alkoxyacetophenone or alkoxy-benzalacetone of formulaI(R1 and R2 are 1W10C alkyl; Y is H or methoxy; n is 0 or 1) or its acid addition salt, as an active component. The compound of formulaIhas lower toxicity to the HeLa cells and the chorioallantois of hen's egg and higher virucidal and virustatic activities than conventional antiviral agents. Above all, the compond of formulaIwherein R1=C10H21 a novel compound) has especially excellent antiviral activity. The compound of formulaIcan be prepared easily by reacting the compound of formula II with the compond of formula III (HX is inorganic or organic acid) under acidic conditions.
