Abstract

PURPOSE: A preform set having a short wet-out time and a balance of strength, obtained by binding chopped pieces of a glass fiber bundle prepared by integrating glass fibers with the aid of a size and having a specified weight/length ratio, with the aid of a binder.
CONSTITUTION: With the aid of a binder are bound chopped pieces of a glass fiber bundle composed of 100W250 glass fibers, diameter 12W14μ, integrated with the aid of a size and having a weight of 30W100g per 1,000m. With respect to the size used, there is used as a film-forming agent, a vinyl acetate homopolymer, a vinyl acetate/epoxy copolymer or the like, there is used as a lubricant, a condensate of stearic acid wth tetraethylenepentamine and there is used as a coupling agent, one containing a vinylsilane such as acrylsilane. As the binder, there is suitably used a polyester resin emulsion or an expoxy resin emulsion.
