Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a foam in a continuous length and having fine uniform expanded cells and good appearance, by molding a silyl-modified polyolefin compsn. contg. a chemical blowing agent at a temp. lower than the decomposition temp. of said blowing agent, crosslinking the molded article, and expanding said article by heating.
CONSTITUTION: A trialkoxysilane such as vinyltrimethoxysilane and a free radical-generating agent such as dicumyl peroxide are added to a polyolefin. The mixture is kneaded with heating to produce a silyl-modified polyolefin. A chemical blowing agent such as azodicarbonamide and a silanol condensation catalyst such as dibutyltin dilaurate are blended with said silyl-modified polyolefin. The resulting compsn. is molded into a required shape at a temp. lower than the decomposition temp. of said blowing agent. The molded article is reacted with a trace amount of water to crosslink it. The article is expanded by heating it at a temp. not lower than the foaming temp. of said blowing agent to produce the desired foam.
