Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce the torque to drive a pump, when the steering force is small, by furnishing a throttling means in a by-pass, which is cut off by a spool valve working in compliance with the pressure in the discharge line, and by connceting the ends to the discharge line and the suction side of pump. CONSTITUTION:If the steering force is small and the discharge pressure of a pump 21 is lower than a certain specified value, a spool valve 33 is pressed by a spring 35 to be situated in the position No.1 illustrated. Liquid discharged from the pump 21 flows into a by-pass 40 from the discharge line 22 in an amount set previously, while the rest flows into a control valve 24 in the power steering device 25. The liquid which has flowed into the valve 24 is sent further through a return way 23 and an orifice 32 to converge with the by-pass 40 and returns to the pump 21 through a suction line 26. Accordingly, the pressure produced in the line 22 by throttling action of the valve 24 will decrease, and the throttling action of the orifice 32 in the return way 23 as well as the back pressure of the valve 24 is suppressed low. Thus the torque required to drive the pump 21 can be decreased.
