Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce a flat square wire of low hardness continuously and easily without annealing the same in a separate stage by annealing a material prior to its rolling thereby controlling the reduction ratio in rolling. CONSTITUTION:A roughly drawn wire 1 is delivered from a supply machine 12, and is fed into a drawing machine 16, by which the wire 1 is drawn to form a material 2 to be edged. The material 2 is scalped of its surface skin by passing through a scalper 22 to form a base material 3 for rolling which is taken up with a capstan 24. Then, the material 3 enters a direct electricity conduction type continuous annealing machine 26, and while it passes through electrode wheels 28A-28D, it is supplied directly with electricity. The material 3 is cooled and annealed by passing through a water tank 30 in the lower part. Then, the material 3 goes through a dancer roll device 32 and enters a rolling mill 34, by which it is formed to a flat square wire 5. It is necessary to give 10-20% reduction ratio after annealing in order to obtain a half-hardened material, and if the working ratio in the mill 34 is within said range, the wire 5 is half-hardened. The wire 5 is coiled on a coiler 38.
