Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce a thin strip of light metal continuously and efficiently in the stage of producing said thin strip by an ultraquick cooling method by attracting the thin strip to the cooling surface of a cooling body using a suction device by means of the high velocity air flow in proximity to thereto. CONSTITUTION:A light metallic material 3 of Al, Ti, Be or alloys of these and Al, Cu, Ti, Zn, etc., is put in a heating vessel 2, and electricity is conducted to a high frequency coil of a heater 4, thereby melting said material. After the material 3 melts thoroughly, the pressure of an inert gas such as Ar through the gas introduction port 2a of the vessel 2 is raised and the molten material is ejected to the surface of the rotating roll 5 by this gaseous pressure. The ejected material 3 is ultraquickly cooled on the surface of the roll 5, and is forcibly scattered to the tangential direction by the centrifugal force of the roll 5, whereby a thin strip 3a is formed. This is fed as it is into the tube 6b of a suction device 6 which creates high velocity air flow. The thin strip is drawn out through this tube.
