Abstract

PURPOSE: A preventing agent for the intraperitoneal adhesion, containing an aqueous solution of sodium alginate as a principal component, and capable of showing the improved preventing effect on adhesion by the direct injection into the operative site after the laparotomy.
CONSTITUTION: An aqueous solution of sodium alginate, preferably in a concentration of bout 2W8wt%, is directly injected into an operative site of laparotomy to prevent the adhesion. The sodium alginate is present in a brown alga, e.g. sea tangle, and a sodium salt of a polysaccharide constituted of D-mannuronic acid and L-guluronic acid, and the polymerization degree is preferably about 50W1,500. The aqueous solution is preferably isotonized with the body fluid, and adjusted by using Ringer's solution, etc. In the case of the usual laparotomy, an aqueous solution of the sodium alginate in a volume preferably about 30W300ml is injected.
