Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent the deposition of polymer scale to the part contacting with monomer, such as inner wall of a polymerizer, etc., by coating the part with an aqueous solution containing a specific acid salt and an iron compound before the polymerization of a vinyl monomer.
CONSTITUTION: The part contacting with a vinyl monomer, e.g. the inner wall of a polymerizer, etc. is coated with an aqueous solution obtained by (1) adjusting the pH value of an aqueous solution of an alkali metal or ammonium salt of an organic sulfonic acid (having conjugated double bond) or carboxylic acid to ≤7, (2) adding a hexacyano-iron compound and or a thiol compound to the solution, and if necessary (3) adding a 3W6C monohydric alcohol thereto. The polymerization of the vinyl monomer is carried out after drying the coating film.
EFFECT: The polymerization of a monomer which has hitherto been carried out using a glass-lined polymerizer, can be performed in a stainless steel polymerizer.
