Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent deterioration in combustibility of fuel, by providing in a high-load intake passage a simple check valve capable of allowing back-flow of intake air leaked to the secondary side at the time of low-load operation of an engine in an intake system in which a low-load and a high-load intake passages are joined together at an upstream part of a single intake valve. CONSTITUTION:A double-intake type internal combustion engine is arranged such that a primary and a secondary intake passages 3, 4 communicated respectively to a primary low-load carburetor 7 and a secondary high-load carburetor 8 joins together at an upstream part of an intake valve 2. In such an arrangement, a simple check valve 12 easy to install is set in the secondary intake passage 4. The check valve 12 is designed to permit back-flow of intake air leaked to the secondary side in such a load region that only the primary carburetor is in operation. Here, providing that the sectional area of the primary intake passage 3 is S1, that of the back-flow permitting passage of the secondary intake passage 4 is S2, and the internal sectional area of an intake valve seat is SV.S, it is required to satisfy the following relationsip, (S2/S1)<0.5 and (S1+S2)/SV.S<0.3.
