Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:An anthracycline glycoside antibiotic 2-hydroxyaclacimonycin A expressed by formula I and an acid addition salt thereof.
USE: A carcinostatic agent.
PROCESS: A strain, e.g. Streptomyces galilaeus MA 144-M1, ATCC31133, belonging to the genus Streptomyces, and having the ability to convert 2-hydroxyaklavinone expressed by formula II into the compound expressed by formula I is cultivated, and the resultant variant strain, isolated from the resultant culture, incapable of producing antibiotics, and having the ability of the conversion is then cultivated in a nutrient culture medium for actinomyces containing a carbon source, a nitrogen source, an inorganic component and minor components at 20W40°C aerobically. The compound expressed by formula II is then added thereto, and the cultivation is further continued to produce and accumulate the compound expressed by formula I. The resultant compound expressed by formula I is then isolated and purified by the conventional method or further subjected to the salt forming reaction to afford the compound expressed by formula I or an acid addition salt thereof.
