Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare a foam having uniform cellular structure without adjusting the foaming conditions, by mixing a foamable polystyrene resin particles or preliminarily foamed particles in a thermosetting resin solution, and foaming and melting the particles during the curing reaction.
CONSTITUTION: Foamable polystyrene resin particles or preliminarily foamed particles thereof are mixed with a resin solution, e.g. epoxy resin solution as a thermosetting resin, and the particles are foamed and moten during the curing reaction of the resin. The particles are foamed and molten at 150°C or above due to the generated heat of the curing reaction. The curing reaction is carried out in an enclosed container to prevent the nonuniformity of the foams by the volatilization of gases from the particles. Preferably, particles having a diameter of 0.1W2mm are used for obtaining the uniform cellular structure.
