Abstract
PURPOSE:To measure the amount and location of the thickness deviation from the values of the thicknesses of the metal pipe, by arranging a pair of electromagnetic ultrasonic wave generator detectors at a specified angle with respect to the outer surface of the metal pipe. CONSTITUTION:When the high temperature metal pipe 23 is advanced in the direction of an arrow 24 by a conveying roller 24, holding and profiling devices 27 and 27' of the electromagnetic ultrasonic wave generator detectors 3 and 3' are driven, and a high frequency pulse power source 29 and a field generating power source 30 are stated. The detected signals corresponding to the thicknesses at two points of the metal pipe 23 are obtained by the electromagnetic ultrasonic wave generator detectors 3 and 3'. The detected signals are sent to dedicated amplifiers 31 and 31' and added in an adder 32. The result is sent to a thickness signal processor 33. The processor 33 identifies the instantaneous synchronizing signals from the high frequency pulse power source 29 when the ultrasonic wave is generated in the generator detectors 3 and 3', and detects the corresponding detected signals. Then the thicknesses of the two points of the metal pipe 23 is computed.
