Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:A 1,4-dihydropyridine-3,5-dicarboxylic ester derivative of formulaI(A is aryl or heterocyclic ring group; R1 is lower alkyl; R2 is H or lower alkyl; R3 is lower alkyl, lower alkenyl or lower alkynyl, X is O or S; R4 is lower alkyl, aralkyl or formula II) or a salt thereof.
EXAMPLE: 3-Methyl 5-( 2-methoxy-1-phenylethyl ) 2,6-dimethyl-4-( m-nitrophenyl)-1, 4-dihydropyridine-3,5-dicarboxylate.
USE: Useful as a hypotensive agent and a remedy for heart or cerebral circulatory disorder having vasodilator and hypotensive action and a long duration.
PROCESS: A compound of formula III is heated with an aldehyde of formula IV and a compound of formula V in a solvent, e.g. methanol, to give the compound of formulaI.
