Abstract
PURPOSE: To produce a coloration-free polyamide economically, by mixing an adipic acid-based molten dicarboxylic acid component with a m-xylylenediamine- based diamine and directly reacting the mixture at normal pressure.
CONSTITUTION: A polyamide is obtained by polycondensing a diamine component containing at least 70mol% m-xylylenediamine with a dicarboxylic acid component containing at least 80mol% adipic acid at a normal pressure and a temperature above the m.p. of the dicarboxylic acid component and raising the temperature of the reaction system above that which is by 30°C lower than the m.p. of the formed polyamide (provided that a temperature not exceeding the m.p. by 50°C is preferred). As compared with the conventional steam pressurizing method, the present process is advantageous in that shortening of reaction time, reduction of energy for solvent (water) removal, increase of charge and yield are fulfilled simultaneously.
