Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the light reflection of an electrode, and to raise a display quality, by providing base film obtained by burning at a high temperature a mixing film of an organic titanium compound and an organic silicone compound, on the inside surface where light transmittable substrates are opposed, and forming a light transmittable electrode and an oriented film on the base film. CONSTITUTION:A coating agent whose main component is a mixture of an organic titanium compound of formula RnTi (OR')4-n (n denotes 0-3, and R and R' denote aryl, alkyl, asyl, etc.), and an organic silicone compound of formula RnSi (OR')4-n (n denotes same as above, and R and R' denote alkyl, aryl, etc.), for instance, Si (OC2H5)4 is applied on the inside surface where upper and lower substrates 1, 2 are opposed, and it is burnt, by which a base film 3 is formed. Subsequently, light transmittable upper and lower electrodes 4, 5 are formed on this base film 3, and moreover, on these upper and lower electrodes 4, 5, and the base film 3 is formed an oriented film 6 whose refractive index is 1.5<n<=1.7. Even if a material whose refractive index is small is used for an oriented film in this way, light reflection of an electrode patern is prevented, maintaining a satisfactory homogeneous orientation, and it is possible to obtain a liquid crystal display element whose display quality has been elevated, by using a base film having a satisfactory insulating property.
