Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the size of a titled machine unit and to increase a typesetting speed by a method wherein a light beam emitted from a rotary light source, of which rotation is controlled in accordance with a character selection signal, is directed to a given photographing port through an optical path converting means. CONSTITUTION:A plate type character board 10 is movable in both X and Y directions and its movement is controlled so as to make the desired character to be typeset coincident with a photographing port in the vicinity thereof. A rotary light source 11 provided below the character board 10 is rotatable about a rotary shaft substantially perpendicular to the character board 10 and it emits a light beam substantially in parallel to a plane including the character board 10. In order to send the light beam emitted from the rotary light source 11 along an optical axis alpha or beta to a given photographing port, fixed mirrors M1.1-M8.20 are provided corresponding to the respective photographing ports. A motor 12 driven to turn the rotary light source 11 is controlled in its rotation angle by a control circuit 13 and a rotation angle detector 14.
