Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the titled alkali salt in high yield, by reacting a crosslinked polyacrylic acid dispersed in an inert solvent with a specific alkali metallic compound or organic base.
CONSTITUTION: A crosslinked polyacrylic acid is dispersed in an inert solvent, e.g. heptane, and then reacted with a comound expressed by the formula M-O-R (M is alkali metal; R is H or lower alkyl) or an organic base, e.g. triethanolamine, in a liquid or solution form, to give the aimed alkaline salt. For example, acrylic acid is copolymerized with allyl sucrose in heptane to give a dispersion of a crosslinked polyacrylic acid in heptane. A solution of potassium hydroxide in a small amount of an alcohol is added to the dispersion with stirring, and the resultant potassium salt of the polyacrylic acid crosslinked with the allyl sucrose is filtered and dried.
