Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide an apparatus for efficiently removing oxygen and hydrogen impurities from a liquid metal, especially, Na and purifying the same comprising filling and joining a space of a getter of oxygen impurity or hydrogen impurity and a diffusion diaphragm with Li, Na or a metal based thereon.
CONSTITUTION: A main body 10 of an apparatus connected to a cooling material flow passage of a liquid metal cooling type nuclear reactor is heated to 400W600°C and held at said temp. and a liquid metal Na 10 is supplied from an inlet 2 and flowed along an outer side of a getter element pipe 5 to be discharged from an outlet 4. During this time, oxygen and hydrogen impurities 11 in the Na 10 are diffused and transferred to a direction of the Na 10 → the diffusion diaphragm 8 → a joined metal 9 → the getter 7. Then, aforementioned impurities reached to the getter 7 are fixed as a stable compound and an impurity concn. in the Na 10 is extremely lowered. Further, as the getter 7, a metal such as Sc, Y or the like active to oxygen and hydrogen is used. Moreover, the diaphragm 8 has strong corrosion resistance against the liquid metal and, as said diaphragm, a metal with excellent oxygen and hydrogen permeability, that is, Ni, Nb or the like or a metal based thereon is used.
