Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide an electrolytic cell being easy to assemble and disassemble with ensured sealing, by fitting other electrodes to one side plate in a detachable manner, which are to stand closely facing to electrodes in a box type diaphragm type electrolytic cell for the electrolysis of an alkali metal halide and by covering other electrodes with each bag-shaped diaphragm. CONSTITUTION:Electrodes 14 are installed in a line on the bottom plate 13 of the cell 12. One side plate 15 paralled to the line is free to fix and remove and onto it other electrodes 16 are fitted parallel to and closely facing against the electrodes 14. The peripheral part of a tube-shaped finger comprising a component 1 for fixing the diaphragm and the bag-shaped diaphragm 4 is interposed and fixed between flange 17' and 17'' and the plate 15 so that the diaphragm 4 projects in the cell. A gasket 18 is placed between these flanges and the component 1, a packing 19 between the component 1 and the plate 15 and each electrode 16 can be received in the diaphragm 4 through each opening 2 of the components 1. The electrolytic cell thus formed is divided into an electrode chamber 20 exclosed with the plate 15 and the tube-shaped fingers and an electrode chamber 21 partitioned by the residual cell walls and the tube-shaped fingers.
