Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the titled polymer capable of dispersing a catalyst uniformly, and having improved transparency, by reacting an aromatic polyisocyanate with a polyol, and trimerizing the resultant urethane in the presence of a solution of a caustic alkali in a specific aliphatic alcohol as a catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: An aromatic polyisocyanate, e.g. tolylene diisocyanate, is reacted with a polyol at an equivalent ratio between the NCO and OH of 1W100, preferably 1.7W3, in an organic solvent, e.g. butyl acetate, preferably at 30W50°C for 6W8hr to give a urethane, which is then trimerized in the presence of a solution of a caustic alkaline catalyst, e.g. caustic soda, in a 4W16C monohydric aliphatic alcohol. e.g. octyl alcohol, preferably in a concentration of 0.02W0.05wt% at 20W140°C, preferably 40W80°C, for 3W8hr.
