Abstract

PURPOSE: A rubberlike foam of high foaming magnification having specific density and gel fraction, and improved elasticity and low permanent compression set, comprising a chlorinated polyethylene and an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer.
CONSTITUTION: (A) 55W90pts.wt. Chlorinated polyethylene is blended with (B) 45W10pts.wt. ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer to give a blended resin, to which (C) a blowing agent, e.g., azodicarbonamide, etc. is added, to give a blended material. This material is molded and exposed to ionizing radiation so that it is crosslinked in a gel fraction range of 25W55%. The crosslinked material is heated to a temperature ≥ the decomposition temperature of the foam so that it is foamed, or the crosslinked foam is irradiated with ionizing radiation again, to give a rubberlike foam having ≤0.2g/cm3 density and ≥65% gel fraction.
