Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the strength of the composite material by leaps and bounds, by including Ca, Sr, Ba, Ra, etc. contained in a matrix metal and by using inorganic fiber as a reinforcing material.
CONSTITUTION: One or more elements of Ca, Sr, Ba and Ra metallic elements are added to a matrix metal such as Al, Mg or Ni in an amount of 0.05W10wt%, based on the matrix. Inorganic fiber such as alumina-containing fiber as a reinforcing material for the matrix is contained in an amount of 15W70vol%, based on the matrix. The composite material is prpared by a liquid metal impregnation method or by a high pressure solidification casting method. In this process, the added elements are existing on interfaces between fiber and matrix in a high concentration and have a function of requlating reactions on the interfaces. Thereby the mechanical strength of the composite material such as bending strength and modulus of elasticity in bending is improved.
