Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve the durability, running characteristics, and environmental reliability, etc., of a magnetic recording medium by preventing a magnetic recording layer from breaking away, by using a magnetic coating material obtained by kneading a titanium coupling agent with magnetic powder, a binder, etc. CONSTITUTION:A 0.5-7wt% titanium coupling agent is blended with magnetic powder of needlelike magnetic iron oxide, etc., and a solvent is added and mixed to wet the magnetic powder with the coupling agent. To the wet magnetic powder, a binder, such as vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate and vinyl alcohol copolymer and a solvent are added and mixed by stirring to adjust a magnetic coating material. This magnetic coating material is applied over a base to form a magnetic recording layer. Thus, the wear resistance of a magnetic recording medium to a head recorder system is improved and its abrasion is reduced.
