Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:Carcinostatic substance TF-133b. It has the following characteristics: appearance, light grey to pale brown powder; melting point, no definite melting point, starts to decompose at 110°C and vigorously decomposes at ≥200°C; elemental analysis, C 31.1W38.5%, H 3.9W5.2%, N 3.4W4.7%; solubility, soluble in water, insoluble in methanol, acetone, chloroform, diethyl ether, etc.; color reaction, positive to Molish reaction, phenol- sulfuric acid reaction, etc., negative to ninhydrin reaction.
USE: A carcinostatic agent. The substance inhibits the proliferation of the cells of Ehrlich ascites carcinoma of mouse, Ehrlich nodular carcinoma, and sarcoma 180 cancer, and has immuno-activating activity.
PROCESS: TF-133b-producing bacteria belonging to Fusobacterium genus, e.g. Fusobacterium nucleatum TF-031 (FERM-P No.5077), is cultured, and the cultured liquid is mixed with a hydrophilic organic solvent to obtain the precipitate. The objective TF-133b is separated from the water-soluble component of the precipitate.
