Abstract
PURPOSE:To extend the life of furnace bottom refractories by measuring heat flow flux at the outside wall of the furnace, estimating the point of the time when a molten iron solidified layer attains less than prescribed thickness and blowing out the blast furnace until the solidified layer is restored. CONSTITUTION:The heat flow flux flowing from the inside of a furnace toward a shell 6 is measured with a heat flow meter 4 installed to the shell 6. The thickness of a solidified layer 8 formed on the inside surface of furnace bottom refractories 1 is estimated from the measured value of this heat flow flux, and if this estimated value attains less than the prescribed thickness, the blast furnace is temporarily blown out. Then, when the layer 8 grows on the refractories 1 upon lapse of a prescribed time, blasting is started. Hence, the life of the blast furnace is extended by repeating such operation.
