Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a heat insulation device for molten metal which controls molten metal temp. constantly without requiring and large-scale heat insulating furnace for molten metal and withstands erosion by the molten metal by providing heat insulating material layers on the inside wall of the shell of iron or the like of a molten metal holding furnace and providing a heating element within said furnace.
CONSTITUTION: Molten metal 3 such as Al alloy teemed into a hermetically closed molten metal holding furnace 1 of a low pressure casting machine of mini- pot type is filled into a die cavity 9 by compressed air and is solidified, after which it is taken out as a produce. Next, the molten metal is replenished by the amt. required for the casting, and the products are cast continuously. Here, a heating element 12 such as electric resistance heating element is immersed in the molten metal 3 in the furnace 1, and is connected to a temp. detecting mechanism so that the temp. of the molten metal 3 is held constant. The element 12 is sealed by refractories in such a way that it does not contact directly. The furnace 1 consists of a shell 1a made of iron and heat insulating material layer 1bW1d of ceramic fibrous moldings lined over the entire surface of its inside wall, and these are relined easily when necessary.
