Abstract
PURPOSE: To make forging in an ordinary forging process possible by coating a thermosetting phenolic resin on the surface of metallic powder-sintered bodies then heating and forging said bodies.
CONSTITUTION: A forging method of heating and forging metallic powder-sintered bodies after coating a thermosetting phenolic resin on the surface thereof. According to this method, the thermosetting phenolic resin carbonizes, and forms a uniform carbon coating on the surface of the powder-sintered bodies and this coating shuts off the powder-sintered bodies from the atmosphere in a furnace during heating or the atmospheric air during forging, thereby preventing oxidation and decarburization. To maintain the density ratio after forging at ≥95%, the density ratio of the powder-sintered bodies is preferably 50W95%, and when reheating after forging is required, it is preferable to adopt forging ratios so as to maintain the density ratio of the powder-sintered bodies after the forging at ≥95% in order to prevent the internal oxidation and decarburization by closing the greater part of the pores of the powder sintered bodies.
