Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain an exterior parts of a portable watch with excellent corrosion resistance and mechanical properties, especially, strength by applying plating of a noble metal base metal to a Ni alloy base material containing Cr, Mo, Cu, Ti and Fe added therein in good balance.
CONSTITUTION: An exterior parts is obtained by plating an alloy base material comprising, in the wt%, 15W25 Cr, 2W5 Mo, 1W4 Cu, 5W25 Fe, 0.3W1.5 Ti, 0.08 or less C and the remainder of Ni and inevitable impurities with a noble metal or an alloy thereof. Ni in said base material imparts extremely excellent carrosion resistance to said parts and Cr enhances strength and corrosion resistance and, corresponding to desired corrosion resistance after activating treatment at the time of plating, the upper and the lower limits are determined and, when the upper limit is exceeded, embrittleness is induced. Mo enhances corrosion resistance when Cl- is contained but, when the upper limit is exceeded, processing property is extremely reduced. Cu also similar effects and enhances plating property but increasement thereof is not necessarily good from a standpoint of corrosion resistance. Fe dissolves lowering of processing property due to Cr and Mo and makes said parts inexpensive but, when the upper limit it exceeded, corrosion resistance is lost. Ti enhances strength and processing property but, when the upper limit is exceeded, it brings about embrittleness and low solderability. C is limited due to the necessity of fixing the same by Ti.
