Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance the adhesion efficiency of a paint, by switching the ON-OFF operation of paint injection at the upper and lower ends of a coating position and controlling the injection amount of the paint in response to the variation in the surface area of a body side surface to be coated.
CONSTITUTION: A plurality (4 pieces) of electrostatic coating devices 4 provided with rotary atomizing heads 5 are arranged in a fixed coating distance from the side surface 1a of a car body 1 being carried. The devices 4 are moved up and down along a direction across the carrying direction of the body 1. Under this condition, the side surface 1a is coated. The injection of a paint at the upper and lower ends of each coating position of the side surface 1a is switched between ON and OFF states in response to variation in the surface area of a workpiece to be coated, by the operation of a controller 14 and limit switches 9W12 and a valve 16. The injection amount of the paint is controlled in accordance with the surface area, too. Thus, a paint film is uniformalized in thickness, and the wasteful consumption of the paint can be avoided.
