Abstract
PURPOSE: n-Butene fraction, after recovery of isobutene, is brought into contact with a microporous cationic exchange resin in the presence of water and tert. -butyl alcohol to effect the polymerization of a trace amount of isobutene and the polymer is remove to give high-purity n-butene.
CONSTITUTION: n-Betene fraction is brought into contact with a micro-porous cationic exchange resin such as sulfonated styrene-divinylbenzene copolymer in the presence of water and tert. -butyl alcohol to convert a trace amount of isobutylene in the n-butene fraction into a low polymer. The polymer is separated to give n-butene free from isobutene. The n-butene fraction is obtained by recovering isobutene from a mixture of 4-carbon hydrocarbons by the sulfuric process or direct hydration process.
EFFECT: The loss of n-butene is low and the catalyst life is prolonged. Isobutene is readily separated. Further, isomerization process is needless to obtain 2-butene.
