Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the fall in the strength of the welded end portion of a round bar spoke, by shaping the end portion of the spoke as a sector.
CONSTITUTION: A round bar spoke 1 is held on a lower die 3 which has a sectorial shaping portion 3a. The end portion 1a of the spoke 1 which projects from the lower die 3 is held by an upper die 4 which limits the end face of the sectorial shaping portion 3a. A punch 6 is then driven into the lower die 3 through the upper die 4 to press the end portion 1a of the round bar spoke 1 into the sectorial shaping portion 3a of the lower die 3 to provide the spoke 1 with a sectorial end portion 1b. The sectorial end portion 1b of the round bar spoke 1 is welded on a rim 2 to manufacture a steering wheel.
