Abstract

PURPOSE: To simplify a running mechanism and a steering mechanism, by providing four wheels so that two wheels on one diagonal act as steering and driving wheels and the other two wheels act as driven wheels which can be optionally turned for 360°.
CONSTITUTION: Two wheels 6 on one diagonal are used as driving wheels which can be rotated forward and backward. The driving wheels 6 can also act as steering wheels. The wheels 6 are steered and controlled through a transmission mechanism 10 including a rod 8 and bevel gears 9 as main constituents, by a steering power source 7 made of a motor installed on the central part of a base plate 2. Wheels 1 on another diagonal are driven wheels 13, each of which is turned as a whole for 360° relative to a portion 12 for mounting a support frame 11 on the base plate 2. The forward and backward rotation of the motor 7 is transmitted to a steering shaft 14 through the transmission mechanism 10 and gears 19, 16 to move the wheels forward and backward. Since the position of contact between the wheel 1 and a floor 25 is not coincident with the center of gyration of the shaft 14, the wheel 1 is rotated as a whole on the floor 25 so that only rolling friction is caused between them. Therefore, the wheel 1 can be moved by a small force.
