Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve the electric charge holding function as an image forming member for electrophotography by interposing a specific intermediate layer between a photoconductive layer consisting of amorphous silicon contg. halogen and a substrate. CONSTITUTION:An intermediate layer 203 consisting of a nonphotoconductive amorphous material a-(SixC1-x)y: X1-y consisting essentially of atoms and carbon atoms and cong. hydrogen atoms is interposed between a substrate 201 and a photoconductive layer 203 consisting of amorphous silicon contg. halogen. The intermediate layer 202 has the functions of inhibiting the inflow of carriers from the side of the substrate 201 to the inside of the layer 203 effectively, and permitting easy passage of the photocarriers, which are produced in the layer 203 by the irradiation of electromagnetic waves and move to the side of the substrate 201, from the side of the layer 203 to the side of the suastrate 201.
