Abstract
PURPOSE: To offer a low-alloyed steel, useful as an oil well, pipe line or the like, provided with excellent sweet corrosion resistance, i.e. resistance to corrosion in a wet CO2 gas atmosphere, by controlling contents of C, Si, Mn, P and S, and adding a specified amount of Cr.
CONSTITUTION: The low-alloyed steel consists of up to 0.2% C, up to 1.0% Si, 0.1W2.0% Mn, up to 0.03% P, up to 0.03% S, 0.5W5% Cr and the balance being substantially Fe. The steel may contain 1% or less of one or more of Cu, Ni, Mo and Al, if necessary. In this composition, local corrosion is prevented and an inhibiting effect to sweet corrosion is obtained by the addition of the specified Cr amount. Each element of Cu, Ni, Mo and Al, which is supplementally added at the controlled amount, suppresses pitting corrosion and makes a corroded surface smooth by its conjunct effect with Cr in the coexistence of Cr.
