Abstract

PURPOSE: To offer a low-alloyed steel, useful as an oil well, pipe line or the like, provided with excellent sweet corrosion resistance in a wet CO2 gas atmosphere, by controlling contents of C, Si, Mn and P, lowering P content and adding a specified amount of Cr.
CONSTITUTION: The low-alloyed steel consists of up to 0.2% C, up to 1.0% Si, 0.1W 2.0% Mn, up to 0.01% P, up to 0.03% S, 0.5W5% Cr and the balance being substantially Fe. The steel may contain 1% or less of one or more of Cu, Ni, Mo and Al. In this composition, local corrosion is prevented and an inhibiting effect to sweet corrosion is obtained by the addition of the specified Cr amount. Each element of Cu, Ni, Mo and Al, which is supplementally added at a controlled amount, suppresses pitting corrosion and makes a corroded surface smooth by its conjunct effect with Cr in the coexistence of Cr. The corrosion-inhibiting effect is further enhanced by lowering S content.
