Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve thermal efficiency while preventing knocking by adjusting an intake amount of an engine with adjustment of cut-off time of an intake rotary valve while cooling the intake to lower the intake temperature.
CONSTITUTION: Intake is sent to an engine 5 through a supercharger 1, an intake cooler 10 and a rotary valve 14 adjusted with respect to opening/closing time according to engine load. Then, a servo motor 40 moves a rod 44 in response to the signal of a knocking sensor 39 to adjust the opening/closing time of the valve 14 through an adjusting lever 36 and an adjusting piece 35 for preventing knocking. Thus, since intake is carried out even in low load under the condition of the atmospheric pressure, the negative work amount of the engine is reduced. Also, since high temperature intake subjected to adiabatic compression is cooled in high load, expansion ratio in the engine is enlarged. Namely high thermal efficiency is provided over the whole range of load.
