Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a polyvinyl alcohol resin powder effectively suitable for printing paste, fiber paste, etc., and capable of giving highly viscous liquid without stringiness when mixed with cold water, having a water solubility and a specific Brookfield viscosity value under a specific condition.
CONSTITUTION: A PVA resin powder has a water sulubility of 20W90wt% (at 20°C and a Brookfield viscosity of 2,000cp or more (6r.p.m.) (at 20°C and 4%) and gives a highly viscous liquid without stringiness when being mixed cold water or lower than 40°C. The PVA resin powder is obtained by heat-treating a modified PVA having hydrophilic functional groups such as (di)carboxylic acid (alkali salt), amino, hydroxyl, etc., or unmodified PVA of a saponification degree of 85W92mol% in a nonsolvent. In particular, the hydrophilic modified PVA is preferable because viscous liquid having higher viscosity can be obtained.
