Abstract

PURPOSE:To realize a multicore fiber which has high roundness and contains cores at proper relative positions by bundling rod-shaped meterials while they are circumscribed mutually, and by melt-sticking the circumscribed parts by elongating the materials over a heat treatment. CONSTITUTION:Rod-shaped materials 1A-1G consisting of core composite parts 2a-2g and cladding composite parts 3a-3g are bundled, and their circumscribed parts 4 are bonded mutually with an adhesive, etc. Instead of said method, they are bundled by being clamped in the process of spinning to form the circumscribed parts 4. In this state, while the circumscribed parts 4 are stuck by melting the materials 1A-1G are elongated, thus obtaining a multicore fiber 7. In this multicore fiber 7, cladding parts 9a-9g are only stuck together partially by melting and the cores 8a- 8g hold roundness without having improper thermal deformation. Therefore, transmission characteristics, resolving power, the reduction of crosstalk, branching characteristics, etc., are improved.
