Abstract
PURPOSE: A novel type composition that is produced by esterifying a cellulose ether substituted with a lkyl groups with both succinic anhydride and phthalic anhydride, thus giving high flexible and tough coating films and rapidly dissolving in an alkaline solution.
CONSTITUTION: The esterification of a cellulose ether substituted with alkyl groups and/or hydroxyalkyl groups, preferably the number of substituting alkyl groups is less than 2.5per glucose unit, with succinic anhydride and phthalic anhydride is effected in a carboxylic acid as a reaction medium in the presence of a catalyst of alkali metal salt of carboxylic acid to produce mixed ester containing acidic succinoyl groups of formulaIand acidic phthaloyl groups of formula II, preferably average numbers of substituting acidic succinoyl groups and acidic phthaloyl groups are 0.1W2.0 and 0.1W2.0per glucose unit respectively.
USE: Production of capsules and enteric medicines.
