Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound useful as an intermediate for synthesizing a solubilizer for gallstone industrially advantageously, by reacting a diacyloxy-hydroxy-cholanic ester with phosphorus trichloride in the presence of a tertiary amine.
CONSTITUTION: A 3α,7α-diacyloxy-12-hydroxy-5β-cholanic ester (e.g., 3α,7α-diacetoxy-12-hydroxy-5β-cholanic acid methyl ester. etc.) shown by the formulaI(R is lower alkyl; X is acyl) is reacted with phosphorus trichloride in a molar amount preferably 1W1.2 times as much as that of the compound in the presence of a tertiary amine (preferably α-picoline, etc.) occasionally in an inert solvent, e.g., dichloroethane, etc. at 120W150°C, to give the desired 3α,7α-diacyloxy-5β-11-choleic ester shown by the formula II.
