Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the dimensional accuracy and production efficiency, by performing quenching and tempering treatments on crude materials for making springs which have been formed to have a tapered shape, and then, performing cold forming on the crude materials to have a shape of barrel type coil.
CONSTITUTION: The process of this manufacturing method is divided into two steps. The first one is a heat treatment process and the second one is a coiling process. In the heat treatment process, a crude material for making spring which passed through a taper working process, in which linear or bar type crude materials are formed to have linear or non-linear tapered shapes, is subjected to desired quenching and tempering treatments. The heat treated crude material in the heat treatment process is formed to have a barrel type coiled shaped under a cold condition in the coiling process. In this way, any heat treatment after coiling is eliminated and deformations of the product are prevented, and thus qualities of the product can be improved sharply.
