Abstract
PURPOSE: To reduce energy consumptions and to improve qualities of the product, by forming crude materials for making spring to have a tapered shape under a condition where the crude material is heated to a prescribed temperature, and then, by forming the crude material to have a coiled shape under a cold condition after the crude material is treated by quenching and tempering without heating the crude material again.
CONSTITUTION: In a heating process a crude material for making spring is heated to a prescribed temperature, and the heated crude material is formed to become linear or non-linear coiled conditions in a taper working process. Then, the crude material is subjected to a quenching treatment without heating the crude material again in a succeeding quenching process. The quenched crude material is treated by tempering in a tempering process, and then, the crude material is formed to have a desired coiled shape under a cold condition in a coiling process. In this way, heating processes are reduced in number and, as the result of this arrangement, the energy consumption is reduced. Moreover, qualities of the product and productivity are improved.
