Abstract

PURPOSE:To increase the range wherein a tool diameter is corrected with high precision by profiling the shape of the same model with two styli differing in diameter and by storing vector values at machine positions on loci of both the profiling operations as pieces of numeric information. CONSTITUTION:A machine position Pn on an operation locus C1 obtained by profiling the shape of a model MDL by a tracter head TRH equipped with a stylus ST having a known diameter phi1 is stored in a memory as data. Similarly, a machine position Qn, in prescribed position relation with the point Pn, on an operation locus C2 obtained by profiling the same MDL by a TRH equipped with an ST having a known diameter phi2 is obtained and a vector value QnPn from the point Qn to the point Pn is also found to record them on a numeric information recording medium as pieces of numeric information. Those pieces of information are used to find a diameter phis, and a cutter having the diameter phis is used; and the vector QnPn is interpolated or extrapolated to find machine position where the center of the cutter having the diameter phis runs, thereby advancing work over positioning.
