Abstract
PURPOSE:To make a magnetic recording medium of superior recording and reproducing and reproducing characteristics at high speeds by setting the temp. of a target of a ferromagnetic alloy consisting essentially of Co and Cr at above the curie point in forming a magnetic layer on a substrate by using a magnetron sputtering method. CONSTITUTION:In producing a magnetic recording medium 6 by forming a magnetic thin film 7 having an easy to magnetize axis in the perpendicular direction of the film and consisting essentially of Co and Cr on a substrate 2 by a magnetron sputtering method, the temp. of a target 15 consisting of a ferromagnetic alloy consisting essentially of Co and Cr is set at above the curie point of the target, whereby the intended magnetic recording medium is obtained. Namely, if the temp. of the target 15 is set at above the curie point, the magnetic flux 13 generated by a permanent magnet 11 leaks to the outside of the target 15 and electrons are confined, by which the speed of sputtering is increased and the magnetic recording media are produced at high speeds.
