Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable a safe return of an ultrasonic flaw detector for unclear reactor at a time when a power source is disconnected, by a method wherein a device, which runs in a vertical and horizontal direction, is caused to run in only the vertical direction at a low speed by setting a brake a time when the power source is disconnected. CONSTITUTION:A running device, provided with an ultrasonic flaw detector for inspection of a weld at a nuclear reactor, is caused to run in a horizontal direction at a high speed by means of a pinion 22, driven from a motor 16, and a rack 8 on a horizontal track 6. When a turn table 9 for converting a direction switches a direction, the running device is made to run in a vertical direction at a high speed through the driving, of a pinion 21, engaging a rack 7 on a vertical track 5, by means of a motor 15 coupled to a brake 17 consisting of a reduction gear. Thus constitution allows the running device to run at a low speed in only the vertical direction through the working of the brake 17 at a time when a power source is disconnected, and enables the safe return of the running device to a starting point through the use of a wire and the like. Additionally, through the use of only a pair of the motors coupled to a brake, a power can be transferred to a pinion, for use with horizontal running, through a clutch, and this also permits achieving of the same purpose.
