Abstract
PURPOSE:To fix an irradiated image of high contrast by irradiating a chalogenide glass sheet contg. much silver with light to deposit an irradiated image of metallic silver particles on the sheet surface and forming a metallic film. CONSTITUTION:A glassy thin Ge-S-Ag film contg. 25-35atomic% Ag is irradiated with light to deposit an irradiated image of metallic particles on the film surface, and metallic silver is fixed to the film surface having the deposited irradiated image. For example, glass consisting of 17-30% Ge, 45-55% S and 25-35% Ag is cut into a sheet and irradiated with light having shorter wavelengths than the characteristic absorption edge of the glass through a mask having the desired image or pattern. Within several sec after the irradiation, the irradiated region begins to whiten, and usually after 5min a white image or pattern of high contrast is obtd. When the image is required to be fixed, the image or pattern of the substrate glass is coated with Au, Ni or the like by vacuum deposition or other method in 50- 300Angstrom thickness.
